Penicillin and several other antibacterial medications commonly taken by pregnant women do not appear to be associated with many birth defects, according to a report in the November issue of Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, one of the JAMA/Archives journals. However, other antibiotics, such as sulfonamides and nitrofurantoins, may be associated with several severe birth defects and require additional scrutiny.

A little tiny light at the end of an endoscope can somehow add a more accurate way to identify pre-cancerous cells in the lining of the esophagus. This was developed by biomedical engineers at Duke University. It was tested on patients at the North Carolina at Chapel Hill. “Long periods of acid reflux can change the cells that line the esophagus, making them appear more like intestinal cells than esophageal cells. These cellular changes can also be a precursor to cancer.” This can somehow be a helpful source.
